The Jackson family’s modest home in Gary, where the children grew up in close quarters, fostered a strong bond among the siblings and a shared passion for music. From an early age, the Jackson children were exposed to various musical styles, including Motown, soul, and R&B, which greatly influenced Michael’s development as a performer.

Michael’s career began as the lead singer of the Jackson 5, alongside his older brothers Jackie, Tito, and Jermaine, with Marlon later joining the group. The Jackson 5 quickly rose to fame in the late 1960s with hits like “I Want You Back” and “ABC,” showcasing Michael’s extraordinary vocal talent and charisma.

Despite the group’s success, Michael’s ambitions extended beyond the confines of the band, setting the stage for his solo career.

In 1971, at the age of 13, Michael launched his solo career while continuing to perform with the Jackson 5. His debut album, Got to Be There, released under Motown Records, showcased his exceptional talent and versatility. Hits like the title track and “Ain’t No Sunshine” highlighted his ability to express deep emotions through music.

However, it was his move to Epic Records in 1975 that marked a significant turning point in his career. Seeking more creative freedom, Michael’s collaboration with legendary producer Quincy Jones began during the filming of The Wiz in 1978.

This partnership proved to be pivotal, leading to the release of Off the Wall in 1979. The album, which blended pop, rock, R&B, and disco, was a massive commercial success, selling over 20 million copies worldwide and earning Michael his first Grammy Award.
